GDC permits the dentist to continue the practise

The BBC reported July 3 that a dentist — Dr Omer Butt, of Prestwich, Greater Manchester who compelled two women for wearing an Islamic dress before consulting them is allowed to continue his practise.

While permitting him to continue his practise, the General Dental Council (GDC) reasoned out that the events took place at “a considerable time ago” as he made these kind of requests to

his Muslim patients between 2005 and 2007 while working at the Unsworth Smile Clinic.

The professional conduct committee of the General Dental Council (GDC) found the requests were made before September 2007.

According to the channel, though GDC reasoned out that these requests indeed “amounted to misconduct”, his eligibility to continue as a dentist was not impaired as the “misconduct” was not repeated since September 2007.
